Michael Galchinsky began serving as Associate Provost for Institutional Effectiveness on January 17, 2017. Dr. Galchinsky completed his Ph.D. in English at the University of California, Berkeley in 1994. He joined the university in 1998 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of English. In his books and articles, he has studied human rights literature, genocide and mass atrocity prevention, international human rights and humanitarian law, Jewish studies, and 19th century British literature.
In July, 2014, Dr. Galchinsky was appointed to serve as the Director of Academic Program Review and Distance Education. He co-chaired the University Senate committee that redesigned the university’s APR policy, and then put the policy into practice, developing the APR Dashboard to ensure data consistency across reviews, and facilitating over a dozen completed reviews. He chaired the Distance Education Council and the related Operational Working Group, helped develop the university’s e-rate and state authorization procedures, and was the institutional representative on the Regents Advisory Committee on Distance Education.
Dr. Galchinsky’s team in the Office of Institutional Effectiveness provides the academic community with access to data, institutional research, and assessments that inform university decision-making. As the university’s accreditation liaison to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), Dr. Galchinsky is working broadly with students, faculty, administrators, and staff to develop a new Quality Enhancement Plan and ensure the decennial reaffirmation of Georgia State’s accreditation.
